You can approach varnishing a door as an afternoon project or as one worth two or more days of your time and the difference is immediately noticeable.
Step 6 allow to dry.
For a panelled door varnish the panels in the order shown to obtain the best finish.
Apply the varnish to your door in long even strokes in the direction of the wood grain.
When varnishing a door start at the top and varnish in stages down to the bottom of the door unless you are varnishing a panelled door in which case varnish the panels individually first from top left to bottom right before varnishing the centre vertical panel the cross rails from top to bottom and then the outer edges.
On a flush door simply start varnishing at the top and work your way to the bottom.
Step 5 apply varnish.
Remove old paint or varnish.

Allow the first coat of varnish to dry overnight.
Wearing protective gloves brush on the first coat of varnish evenly.
