Seems to have occurred when the weather got warmer here but not sure since it is fairly intermittent.
Jun 17th 2009 19 17 the sensor is outside the car underneath the side rear view mirror on either the right or the left side it s on the left side on my lhd it s that black protruding notch you can see and feel it if you look closely under the side rear view mirror the connector in question would be on that side of the car.
Used my bsr ppc volvo code reader and got no codes related to ambient sensor.

Often at switch on the reading appears to be accurate and sometimes remains ok for some time 1 hour or longer then i can watch a count down every couple of seconds or so to as low as 7c then can fluctuate in the low range of a minus figure up to plus 2 or 3c.

Called dealer for parts and found there are 2 outside sensors one in each side mirror.
My volvo v50 outside temperature gauge often give a very inaccurate reading such as showing 12c when i know it is about 4 this in turn make the interior thermostat try and raise the temperature to a ridiculous high heat.
To the instrument panel read out comes from a sensor in the right door mirror housing.
Within the pdm passenger door module will have to have a software upgrade if the temp sensor is replaced due to a defect or breakage.
